Dwight Johnson served as the Director of Distance Learning and Instructional Technology at Wightman & Associates, LLC (W&A) until his retirement from the company in the Fall of 2018. He served FEMA, the FAA, the CDC, and Catholic Charities USA. He has over 20 years in government-agency training experience:
- Creating online training, such as the CDC disaster-response training for Environmental Health Responders. This 13-lesson course covers all aspects of environmental response during disasters and was designed to replace in-class training, saving the CDC an estimated $450,000 per year.
- Producing in-class training, including the FEMA training for staff responding to natural hazards including floods, hurricanes, wildfires, tornadoes, and earthquakes.
- Developing support materials, including instructor guides, student manuals, job aids, videos, activities, exams, and promotional materials.
One of my most interesting projects at W&A is the Environmental Health Training in Emergency Response (EHTER) awareness course. This course was developed for FEMA and the CDC to train Environmental Health Responders on the hazards and risks of performing their tasks in disaster environments such as hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and wildfires. This is a self-paced web-based program covering topics from the routine to the fascinating: Environmental Health in Disaster Management • Safety and Health • Safe Water • Food Safety • Waste Water • Building Assessment Teams • Vectors and Pests • Solid Waste and Debris • Shelter Assessments • Radiation ~D.Johnson
